PHASE VIII

Determination of the performance of high-volume fly ash concrete.
Test prisms installed at Treat Island . . . . . . . . . 1987

This phase involved the evaluation of high-volume fly-ash concrete. Typically, in this low cement-content concrete, large volumes of ASTM Class F fly ash (56 percent by mass of cement) are incorporated into concrete, and the water-to-cementitious materials ratio is kept at about 0.30. The high slumps are achieved with the use of large dosages of a superplasticizer. In this investigation, air-entrained concretes were made incorporating 56 percent of fly ash by mass of cement and with water-to-cementitious materials ratios of 0.31 and 0.35.
The nominal cement and fly ash contents were 155 and 200 kg/m3 respectively, in both cases.
