PHASE XIV

Determination of the performance of concrete containing silica fume and fly ash in controlling expansion and cracking of concrete due to alkali-silica reaction.
Test prisms installed at Treat Island . . . . . . . . . 1994

This phase is a part of research program undertaken by CANMET for the CANMET/Industry Research Consortium on Alkali-Aggregate Reactivity. The main objective of this work is to evaluate the long-term effectiveness of silica fume and fly ash in controlling expansion and cracking of concretes incorporating an alkali-reactive greywacke from Nova Scotia. The fly ash and silica fume were incorporated into the concrete at cement replacement levels of 20 and 30% and 10 and 15%, respectively. The water-to-cementitious materials ratio of the concrete was 0.40.
